The statement of Electrical Engineering problems as differential equations and their solution techniques. First and second order transients. Effects of Harmonics, Fourier Series. Numerical Integration and Differentiation, Finite Element and Finite Difference Analysis. Probability and Statistics. Vector Analysis. Line, Surface and Volume Integrals. Elementary Complex Variables. Matrix Analysis Introduction to Partial Differential Equations.
Learning Objectives:
- apply Fourier analysis to non-sinusoidal signals;
- analyse the time response of high order systems using Laplace transforms;
- apply matrix analysis to high order systems;
- demonstrate a fundamental knowledge of the probabilistic nature of signals and systems;
- demonstrate a fundamental ability to apply finite element analysis to the solution of field problems.
Assessment by examination (50%-70%); on-course assessment (30%-50%).
