Studies of Society and Environment

The subject examines the studies of society and environment key learning area, its origins and development, and its distinctive approach to social and environmental education. It explores the structure of the learning area, including approaches to conceptual organisation, process and values. Students will consider the application of a range of related teaching and learning processes, including active and collaborative learning and outcomes based education and assessment.

Learning Objectives:

  1. critically assess the studies of society and environment key learning area and related curriculum documents;
  2. understand key issues and problems in the learning area;
  3. develop strategies and programs for achieving outcomes.

Assessment by essay or position paper (25%); written assignment (25%); research, evaluation or curriculum development project (50%).
