Early Childhood Education

This subject explores the implications of research on social justice issues for policy statements, curriculum development, programming and pedagogy in early childhood education. The subject emphasises the critical evaluation of research and teacher design of classroom-based research.

Learning Objectives:

  1. identify issues in social justice as they apply to the early childhood field;
  2. provide critical readings of research articles and reports in this area;
  3. understand the reciprocity of relationship between theory and practice;
  4. critically reflect on practices, early childhood contexts and organisational factors that impede the realisation of more socially-just child-child and adult-child relations;
  5. develop and conduct a small scale research project dedicated to improving an early childhood setting in relation to a social justice issue.

Assessment by seminar paper and presentation (50%); project-small scale research (50%).
