Classroom Evaluation

Inadmissable Subject Combination: PD4001

20 lectures, 20 hours workshops. Second semester (Townsville campus); second semester (Cairns campus).

Available to level 3 and 4 education students as an elective subject.

Staff: Dr P McNally.

This subject will examine the role of evaluation in educational decision-making at the classroom level. The key focus will be on the evaluation of student learning and its impact on teaching. A range of test and non-test assessment procedures will be studied and practical applications developed. Current issues relating to assessment and evaluation in schools and their application to early childhood education, primary and/or secondary contexts will be discussed.

Learning Objectives:

  1. develop an understanding of the key issues in evaluating and reporting pupil progress in ECE, Primary and Secondary school settings;
  2. appreciate the importance of evaluation in providing feedback and guidance to students, teachers, parents and the community at large.

Assessment by seminar and report (50%); examination (40%); participation (10%).
