The subject focuses on current and future developments in the educational context and their significance for the beginning teacher, including links among contemporary educational issues and current education policies, professional ethics and industrial issues, and school-community relations. The subject examines a range of expectations, situations and experiences a neophyte teacher may encounter.
Learning Objectives:
- critically assess the implications for the role of the teacher of current and emerging educational issues, trends and policies;
- understand and be able to work in ethical ways which respond to the changing role of schools in society;
- work effectively with the profession and the community;
- develop and reflect on an incipient teacher identity.
Assessment by professional portfolio (60%); project report (40%).
