Information Technologies in Education

11 World Wide Web lecture topics, 2 mass lectures, 13 tutorials. Second semester. This subject requires access to Web-based material. Students wishing to study this subject off-campus should ensure that they are able to access this material. Information on requirements is available from the School of Education.

Available to undergraduate students. Core subject for BEd.

This subject provides an introduction to the educational significance of current and future developments in information technologies including the evaluation, application and instructional design of information technologies in education; media text analysis; the social and psychological effects of information technologies and their relation to schooling.

Learning Objectives:

  1. develop an appreciation of the use of information technologies (computer, video/TV, telecommunications) for effective learning and teaching;
  2. consider the use and instructional design of information technologies for materials presentation;
  3. analyse media text;
  4. analyse the social and psychological effects of information technologies on education;
  5. develop skills in the use of computer and video technology for educational purposes.

Assessment by project (30%); reaction papers (20%); examination (50%).
