Metalliferous Economic Geology Honours

Townsville

First and second semester.

Available to students who have completed the BSc strand in Geology at James Cook University or an equivalent qualification from another institution and who require a sound academic and professional background appropriate for employment within the mineral industry. The subject is designed to combine the development of independent research skills with specialist training in the area of metalliferous economic geology. The program draws heavily on expertise and industry relationships afforded by the Key Centre in Economic Geology. Candidates may enrol to commence study at the beginning of either the first or second semester.

Studies include:

  1. prescribed coursework related to the origin of ore deposits and basic techniques of ore search;
  2. development of mapping skills through a major group project of supervised mapping;
  3. development of research skills through an independent investigative thesis.
