Hydrology

Prerequisites: 12 units of level 1 Science subjects; EA1100 and CH1001 recommended

39 lectures, 26 hours practicals, 8 hours field work. Second semester.

An introduction to surface and ground water hydrology including precipitation, interception, run-off stream flow and infiltration, the principles of ground water flow, water chemistry, resource evaluation and the development of production bores.

Learning Objectives:

  1. students will gain a preliminary understanding of the physical and chemical processes effecting water flow, quality and availability;
  2. lecture materials will be reinforced as students work through a major site evaluation project which culminates in report writing and oral presentation of results.

Assessment by a two-hour written examination (50%), major laboratory-based assignment (40%); oral presentation (10%).
