Environmental Engineering Design

Townsville

Prerequisites: CS2002 CS3005

9 lectures, 69 hours practicals, 5 days field work. Second semester.

Available to civil and environmental engineering students.

Design – generally three projects covering topics selected from: environmental impact assessment; waste treatment; emission control; impact mitigation; monitoring. The major emphasis will be on obtaining a practical, economical design consistent with the concept of ecologically sustainable development and environmental engineering principles.

Students will be required to take part in an extended visit of inspection to environmental engineering projects which may be outside the Townsville area. Following the visit, students will be required to submit a written report.

Learning Objectives:

  1. to train students in the processes of decision making, problem formulation and analysis required for a major design project;
  2. to improve written communication skills.

Assessment by on-course assessment of the work including designs, drawings and written reports (100%).
