A general introduction to the Australian legal system; introduction to torts; the law of contract; sale of goods; negotiable instruments; bankruptcy; and introduction to trusts.
Learning Objectives:
- state the sources of Australian law;
- outline the court systems that operate in Australia;
- describe the elements, the significant terms and the operation of contracts;
- identify the principles of the law of torts as they apply in a commercial environment;
- explain how legislation has affected contracts in a sale of goods context;
- describe the bankcustomer relationship and the use of negotiable instruments in modern commerce;
- explain the mechanisms whereby debtors become bankrupt and the consequences of bankruptcy;
- describe the general functioning of trusts in Australia.
