The management of building and construction contracts is an important element of construction project management. The development and administration of contractual processes are guided by standard forms of contract within the principles of contract law. This subject enunciates the legal framework of building and construction contracts.

Law of contract. Local, state and Federal legislation related to building and construction. Standard forms of contract in the construction industry. Contract documentation, breach of contract, negligence, liability and remedies.

Learning Objectives:

  1. to analyse the terms and conditions of a construction contract;
  2. to develop a basic understanding of the legal role of various participants in building and construction practice;
  3. to improve the awareness of the responsibilities of construction professionals and common contractual problems during contract administration.

Assessment by on-course assessment of assignments (30%); a three-hour examination (70%).
