The preparation of bills of quantities for multistorey domestic and large commercial and industrial buildings. Professional practice; the role of the construction economist and professional services, relationship with client and design team, post contract procedures, cost control, relationship between form of contract and type of bill, office procedures. Code of ethics. Estimating for civil engineering construction. The preparation of bills of quantities for civil engineering projects.
Learning Objectives:
- to provide an understanding of the processes involved in the preparation of bills of quantities for multi-storey buildings and large commercial and industrial buildings;
- to provide an understanding of the principles of cost control;
- to provide an understanding of professionalism and ethics;
- to provide an understanding of the professional practices of the quantity surveyor.
Assessment by on-course assessment of assignments (30%); a three-hour examination (70%).
