Thesis – Environmental Chemistry

Prerequisites: Consult HOS

Two years on an approved laboratory research project in environmental chemistry.

Available to postgraduate students completing the Master of Science degree in environmental chemistry by research.

Staff: Dr G Jones, Dr M Ridd.

Candidates may spend up to two years working on a research project in marine chemistry, chemical oceanography, environmental analytical chemistry, environmental chemistry, marine pollution or environmental geochemistry. The research topic will be selected after consultation with the environmental chemistry course coordinator and the appropriate supervisor. Candidates will be required to write a thesis of no more than 160 pages that describes their work and will be required to present a seminar to staff and students.

Learning Objectives:

  1. to train students in the basic principles of research in environmental chemistry.

The degree of MSc in environmental chemistry will be awarded if the candidate submits a thesis of sufficient quality to satisfy the examiners (one of whom will be external).
