Thesis – Environmental Chemistry

Prerequisites: Consult HOS
One year on an approved laboratory research project in environmental chemistry.
Available to postgraduate students completing the Master of Science degree in environmental chemistry by coursework and research.
Staff: Dr G Jones, Dr M Ridd.
Candidates may spend from one to two years working on a research project in marine chemistry, environmental chemistry, marine pollution, chemical oceanography, environmental analytical chemistry and environmental geochemistry. The research topic will be selected after consultation with the environmental chemistry course coordinator and the appropriate supervisor. Candidates will be required to write a thesis of no more than 120 pages that describes their work and will be required to present a seminar to staff and students.
Learning Objectives:
- to train students in the basic principles of research in environmental chemistry.
The degree of MSc in environmental chemistry will be awarded if the candidate achieves a satisfactory standard in any written examinations, seminar presentations and/or literature reviews and submits a dissertation of sufficient quality to satisfy the examiners.
