Advanced Physical Chemistry

24 lectures, 50 hours practicals. Second semester CH3004 is a required corequisite subject.

A selection of topics related to the research interests of the staff members teaching the course. These include topics selected from quantum chemistry, x-ray crystallography and EPR spectroscopy.

Learning Objectives:

  1. to make students aware of some topics and techniques of current interest at the research level in physical chemistry;
  2. to provide students with some insights into the philosophical basis of physical chemistry;
  3. to give students experience at working in a research environment;
  4. to prepare students for entry into more advanced levels of study in physical chemistry.

Assessment by a three-hour examination (50%); a written report of a laboratory project (50%).
