Available to level 4 computer systems engineering students.

During the final year of study for the BE degree, students are required to prepare a thesis on a subject or topic approved by the Head of School. In carrying out the work, the students will be required to prepare a project plan, based on the principles presented in Project Management in level 3, to enable them to have clear objectives for their project and enable an assessment of the resources required for the project to be determined. The project plan will be completed in first semester as part of the subject Systems Engineering and Management.

Students will also be required to attend lectures on Engineering Management given by engineers and specialists from industry and attend research seminars presented by staff and postgraduate students in the department throughout the year.

Learning Objectives:

Students will carry out an individual project which will demonstrate their fundamental capabilities in management both personal and technical and their critical appraisal of a field of study.

Assessment by a project management report (15%), seminar (10%), thesis (75%).
