Literature Review and Proposal

Second semester.

Master of Applied Science candidates will undertake a literature review on a topic selected in consultation with their supervisor(s) and Course Coordinator. The topic should be pertinent to their research project. The review should be a critical appraisal of the objectives, methodologies and results of previous research relating to the topic.
Candidates will also prepare a formal proposal for their research project. The proposal will take the form of a standard application for research funding and will outline the aims, significance, research plan, timetable, budget, justification and references to the scientific literature. The proposal will be presented and defended by the candidate at an Introductory Research Seminar.
Learning Objectives:
- to develop skills in planning and presenting a program of research work in agricultural science.
The Literature Review will be read and assessed by a panel drawn from the staff of the department and from other research institutions in the region. The Research Proposal and the Introductory Research Seminar will be reviewed by a panel of experts and the student will receive a written report.
