ANTHROPOLOGY AND ARCHAEOLOGY

The School of Anthropology and Archaeology offers a group of multidisciplinary scientific studies on human adaptation and diversity in the past and present as well as human interaction with and impact on the environment in the past and present.

These studies place a special emphasis on Australia, the Pacific and Southeast Asia. A new program in Maritime Archaeology is available.

HIGHER DEGREES

Facilities are available for students to study for the degrees of:

Graduate Certificate of Social Science (Anthropology and Archaeology)

Postgraduate Certificate of Cultural Heritage Studies

Postgraduate Certificate of Social Science (Anthropology and Archaeology)

Postgraduate Diploma of Cultural Heritage Studies

Graduate Diploma of Arts or Social Science (Anthropology or Archaeology)

Master of Arts or Social Science by research in Anthropology or Archaeology

Master of Science by research in Archaeology

Master of Cultural Heritage Studies by coursework with research

PhD in Anthropology or Archaeology.

In addition, multidisciplinary programs for these degrees are available.

The School is also responsible for the museum of Anthropology and Archaeology in the University.

The School’s ethnographic collections focus on North Queensland but also include a range of comparative collections from other cultures (Africa, Americas, Asia, Australia and the Pacific).

The School provides specialised student laboratory and workshop facilities, together with an exhibition gallery and collections storage.
