TROPICAL MARINE NETWORK PROGRAM

Townsville

This is a new interdisciplinary major in Marine Science in conjunction with the University of Sydney and the University of Queensland. Students who wish to enrol in this program should have an OP (or equivalent) of 10.

The major comprises an approved sequence of at least 42 units including a total of 18 units of level 3 subjects from at least two different disciplines.

Students currently enrolled at JCU who wish to join this program and have the necessary prerequisites can apply to do so, however a quota will apply.

level 1

CH1001:03 introductory Chemistry A (Sem 1)
MA1000:03 Mathematical Foundations (Sem 1 and 2)
MB1110:03 Introductory Marine Science (Sem 2)
PH1005:03 Introductory Physics (Sem 1 and 2)
Plus
12 units (four subjects) of electives (refer to Subject Information Booklet).

Students must complete three field orientated intensive subjects in marine science, one of which would usually be taken during Semester 2 in level 2, the remaining two during level 3.

level 2

Students must attend one of the intensive field subjects. The following subjects are recommended:
BS2001:03 Biometrics (Sem 1)
PH2006:03 Descriptive Physical Oceanography (Sem 2)
Plus
Electives to take the total units completed to 24 (refer to Subject Information Booklet).

level 3

The remaining two intensive field subjects plus six approved level 3 marine science subjects (18 units) selected from two of the following disciplines: AQ, BT, CH, EA, EV, MA, MB, PH, ZL to a total of 24 units.
